Picturing America: Looking Down Yosemite Valley, California, 1865

Have you noticed the new posters hanging in the library? We received a Picturing America award which provided 40 reproductions of American art. Each week, I will draw your attention to one of the pieces, so that you can think a little more about what a rich artistic history we have in this country.

This week's poster is Looking Down Yosemite Valley by Albert Bierstadt(located below the TV on the right). What do you see first when you look at this painting? How does this add to the drama of the scene?

Great Picture of Yosemite valley. If anyone wishes to view original Albert Bierstadt Yosemite landscapes, visit the Haagen Museum on Pershing Avenue in Stockton off I-5.
