Given that tomorrow is Veteran's Day, it is appropriate to draw attenton to the poster that honors soldiers. "
The Robert Gould Shaw and the Fifty-fourth Regiment Memorial (located above the library windows) a monumental bronze relief sculpture standing at the edge of Boston Common, was begun twenty years after the end of the Civil War and not completed for another fourteen." This memorial was to Robert Shaw who commanded the Fifty-fourth Volunteer Infantry. This regiment was the first of African Americans recruited in the North for service in the Union Army.
Look closely at the winged figure in the sky...what does she hold?(Note what she is holding is a symbol for a Veteran's Day)
