Monday Morning Book Review--The Help
The Help by Kathryn Stiockett has been on the best seller list for several weeks. This compelling story highlights the intersecting lives of three women in Jackson Mississippi during the 1960's. Two of the women are black maids and the third is a single white woman who begins to chronicle their story and the story of other maids in the segregated south. While fiction, the book takes the reader on a journey through the complexities of the the relationships between blacks and whites in the early days of the civil rights movement as these women raise children, clean houses and are privy to the intimate details of one another's worlds.
