Tuesday's Tip--Searching Strategies

Most search engines don't allow for natural language or question searching. i.e. What were the causes of the Battle of the Bulge?  For good searching you need to select keywords to search.

Using the example above one search might be "Battle of the Bulge" using quotes to keep those words together.  Add causes to the end of the search string and it will narrow the results even further.

Another technique is to use synonyms and Boolean operators (see February post and Google tricks post).  For example students searching for information on the death penalty could search "death penalty" OR "capital punishment".
