How do you know the source you've found for research is a good one? Over the next few Tuesdays, the weekly tip will cover one way of evaluating a source for academic use. These tips are based on
handouts from the Mission College Library.
Authority:
- What are the qualifications or credentials of the person or organization responsible for the book or article?
- Can you find or verify the author's credentials? (Google him/her)
- Is the book publisher reputable?
- Is the periodical or periodical publisher reputable?
If you can't determine the authority of the author or publisher, you shouldn't use it.
