Monday Morning Book Review--The Hunted

The Hunted by Matt de la Peña is a worthy sequel to The Living  This book picks up with Shy, Carmen, Marcus and Shoeshine coming ashore in Southern California after the earthquake has devastated the West Coast. Shy and his comrades know they need to get the information they have to FBI but can they survive the trek inland to Arizona?  The Hunted doesn't disappoint.  This is a page turner that keeps you wanting to know what can possibly happen next.

If you read book #1 you'll want this one!  If you haven't read the first one--grab it quick.

Monday Morning Book Review--The Selection

The Selection by Kiera Cass could be described as TV's The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. America is selected to join 35 other girls in their quest to be the bride of the Prince Maxon of Ilea. She doesn't really want to be selected but going will help out her family and move her up in the caste system. Once she's there, she learns the world she knows isn't everything she thought it would be.

Monday Morning Book Review--Scarlet

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is book #2 in the Lunar Chronicles series (Book #1 was Cinder).  This book uses the story of Red Riding Hood as the theme.  The story of Scarlet starts with the disappearance of her grandmother in France.  Paralleling Scarlet's story is the continuing story of Linh Cinder and Prince Kai.  This futuristic fairytale with good versus evil keeps the reader on the edge and wondering what will happen next.  

Monday Morning Book Review--Safekeeping

Safekeeping by Karen Hesse--Radley has returned home from Haiti to a United States in upheaval.  The American People's Party has risen to power and they are cracking down on travel throughout the U.S.  Radley's parents are missing so she embarks on a journey to Canada in the hopes of reuniting with her parents.  Hesse has added her own personal photographs to illustrate Radley's journey which add to the haunting story. 

Monday Morning Book Review--Unwholly

Unwholly by Neal Shusterman--This is book two in a series.  Last week, book one was reviewed.  Shusterman continues his story in the world where teenagers can be "unwound" for their body parts.  Connor, Risa and Lev return each on their own journey to resist the unwinding movement.  Add in a Juvie cop that wants revenge, Cam a composite of multiple unwinds, and Starkey who wants to avenge the unwinding of storks, and the story continues to keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.  Hopefully, we won't have to wait another four years for book three.
