All American Boys by Jason Reynolds & Brendan Kiely--Everyone should read this book! No matter your age, gender, ethnicity this story needs to be told, discussed and challenged. Rashad is an ROTC student who stops by the local market for some snacks on his way to meet up with friends. Suddenly, things go awry and Rashad is on the wrong end of a policeman's wrath. Quinn and his friends are hoping to should tap someone for some alcohol at the local market when he witnesses Rashad's arrest. The policeman has been a mentor to Quinn and how does he reconcile what he saw with the guy he knows? Reynolds and Kiely write Rashad & Quinn's stories in alternating voices that speak directly to our world today. The book raises more questions than answers but definitely makes you think. READ IT!

Monday Morning Book Review--The Graveyard Book
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman--Gaiman's many fans whether his children's books (Coraline) , graphic followers(Sandman) or adult titles (American Gods) can find something to love in this charming story. Bod Owens is raised in a graveyard and the inhabitants teach him all sorts of tricks for survival. Gaiman's storytelling and imagery bring to life the ghosts, ghouls and others who help Bod grow up. This year's Newbery Award winner is a must read no matter how old you are.

Monday Morning Book Review
Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo--This book was announced last week as the winner of the California Young Reader Medal for young adult books. This medal is selected by students throughout California who decide which book should win.
Set during World War I, it's the story of Thomas Peaceful who has lied about his age in order to follow his older brother into the war. Thomas is only fourteen but sets out to prove himself to his country, his family, his childhood love, Molly and himself.
