Welcome Back

Welcome Back to School.  On Monday August 30, schedule distribution for students arriving after 8:10 a.m. will take place in the library until the end of 2nd period.  After break pick up schedules at the attendance office.
The library will open for regular business at break.  Come on in and see the new books that have arrived, the updated computer lab and more.  Regular library hours begin on Tuesday August 31st.

Library Procedures 2009-2010

Checkout Procedures:

ID card needed for checkout

Checkout books for 15 school days (3 weeks)--renew twice

10 cents per day overdue fine

Library Hours:

Mon., Tues. & Thurs.: 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Wed.: 7:30 a.m-2:00 p.m.

Fri.: 7:30 a.m.-3:00p.m.

Miscellaneous Information:

Students in the library during class time need to sign-in and have a pass

Computer users need internet identification

Testing Season Begins...

Second semester is testing season and with it comes library closures. I know it's inconvenient, but the library is one of the only large group spaces with tables and chairs that can be easily arranged for testing.

UPCOMING CLOSURES:

Tuesday & Wednesday February 3rd & 4th is CAHSEE testing. (This means we may close early on Monday 2/2 for set up).

Wednesday February 11th the library will be closed during classtime for staff training, but will open before school and at lunch.

Book Review--Dreams from my father

Dreams from My Father: a story of race and inheiritance by Barack Obama--If you haven't read the story of our new president's young life, you should. It will give you a personal insight into the path that led him towards the White House.

Tuesday Tip--Computer Logins

Yes, I missed the Monday Morning Book Review on the First Day of School but I will work on that. Welcome back to school and I hope you had a great summer break. I did (if you want to know more just ask)!

Today's tip is about your student logins on the computer...these are the same as in the past

Username: (your initials)(your id number). y(year of graduation)
Password: the same as middle school and/or last year

If you don't know your password, ask me--I have a file. If you are a new student to MHS, let any of your teachers or me know and we can request your account be activated.

Library Closures

I (Ms. McCready--the librarian)will use this forum to communicate interesting and useful information about what's happening in the library and beyond. What is up with the library hours?

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 a.m.- 4p.m.
Wednesday 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Friday 7:30 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

Why are these different then before? I (Ms. McCready) am a new staff member and am obligated to attend staff meetings and teacher trainings. In addition, Milpitas High is undergoing it's self-study process for accreditation (WASC) and I have been asked to co-chair a focus group which meets on Wednesday's. In addition as librarian I am a member of the School Leadership Team which meets one Tuesday afternoon a month. I will use signs to indicate when we are closed. Friday's are my selfish point since contractually I only have to stay until 3:15 every day, I use Friday's as my personal appointment afternoons and my "it's the weekend I'm out of here day!"
